Bolivar

This brand was created in the early 1900s by José Fernandez Rocha, probably in 1902. The Bolivar cigar range is almost as well known as its namesake «Simon Bolivar» (1783-1830) the Libertador, the legendary figure who liberated most of South America from the Spanish colonial empire in the early 19th century. The Bolivar brand was officially registered by «J.F. Rocha et compagnie» in 1921, but was little known in the export market at the time. When José Rocha died in 1954, the Bolivar brand and La Gloria Cubana were sold by the Rocha family to the Cifuentes family. All production moved to the Partagas factory, which still manufactures Bolivars today. By the end of the fifties, the brand had already acquired a great reputation in export markets, no doubt thanks to the experience of the Partagas factory.

At the time of the revolution, it was already highly reputed and was one of the favorite brands of English smokers.

After the revolution, production continued uninterrupted. Interestingly, no notes have been found concerning this brand, with the exception of modules whose production was discontinued in the 1970s. In addition, a noticeable shift from blending to softness has been observed on certain formats produced since 1995.

It's hardly surprising that, like the historic figure whose name they have adopted, Bolivar cigars have such a strong personality. They are among the most powerful and flavourful habano cigars. They derive their incomparable aromatic richness from tobaccos grown in the Vuelta Abajo region, a blend that is particularly enchanting for connoisseurs.
