An extraordinary Habanos as the first Figurado in Cohiba's standard range.
Cohiba Pirámides Extra complements Cohiba's Clásica line. Its extraordinary and exclusive vitola should give this Habanos-Premium brand a new preference. What's more, this vitola comes with a new Cohiba ring, a first for the Línea Clásica.
The brand was created in 1966, and for a long time, these cigars were exclusively offered to various national and international heads of state, and of course to the leader Fidel Castro. These cigars are produced in the renowned Cuban factory, El Laguito. It was only in 1982 that Cohiba brand cigars appeared in limited quantities on the international market for the most demanding connoisseurs.
The name Cohiba comes from the Taino Indian language. The term refers to a wrapper of tobacco leaves, smoked by the Cuban natives and discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1492, when he landed on the island.
The tobacco leaves used to make Cohiba come from the best plantations, i.e. the five top-quality plantations, a qualification awarded by the Tobacco Institute to the best plantations located in very specific tobacco regions, in this case San Juan y Martinez and San Luis region Vuelta Abajo* (D.O.P.).
Cohiba exists in 4 different lines. The Clásica line is made up of 6 vitolas developed between 1966 and 1989, while the 1492 line was launched in 1992 for the 500th anniversary of the discovery of America. In 2002, 10 years later, a new benchmark in the tobacco world called Siglo VI was introduced. Then, in 2007, the Maduro 5 line followed with three new vitolas, whose Genios wrapper is the result of a fermentation process lasting over five years. Then, in 2010, Cohiba Behike, Cohiba's most exclusive line, was launched. For the first and only time, a fourth tripe leaf is used to blend the three vitolas. It's called Medio Tiempo and refers to the two rarest leaves located at the tip of the tobacco plant, and therefore the most exposed to the sun.
Cohiba is also a trendsetter in the Cuban cigar industry. In 2002, the Cohiba factory introduced a Reserva and in 2009 a Grand Reserva made from a rigorous selection of tobacco fermented for three to five years.
Although in the past, various Figurados have been produced in limited editions on special occasions, including the Reserva del Milenio and the limited editions 2001 and 2006, the Pirámides Extra is the first Figurado in Cohiba's standard range to be included in the Línea Clásica.
The Pirámides Extra manufacturing vitola (ring size 54 x 160 mm) is made exclusively for Cohiba.
One of the essential qualities of this new Cohiba cigar lies in its presentation. Thanks to its new hologram ring, it is easily recognizable by aficionados.
